Memory Index – Traces

An episode of Twin Peaks happened to be playing in the background while Memory Index worked on the music for “Traces”, and it handed him both the title and the opening line. The song keeps that mood: clues that refuse to add up to anything, a reflection going blurry in the light and a future stuck inside a dream. The chorus is where it turns, a stubborn bargain that there’s no moving on without dropping what’s weighing him down, and no living without some purpose to hold on to. Musically it’s new wave through and through, with Echo & the Bunnymen and the Psychedelic Furs as the named reference points, atmospheric post-punk built for late nights. It’s out now on Cold Transmission Music, the second single from his forthcoming album Artifice.
